I attended the April 20 session of Meditative Drawing at the Benjamin Branch (1530 Benjamin Pkwy, Greensboro 27408, across from General Greene Elementary) from 6-7pm. What a lovely experience! Our host, Joe, had decorated the room with interesting objects to draw (even mirrors, if you wanted to draw a self-portrait) and reference books for inspiration. He provided paper and drawing supplies, and even refreshments, so all you had to do was show up.
In addition to the lovely decorations, the meeting room at Benjamin has a huge picture window that provides a very tranquil wooded view.
With gentle meditative music playing, the scent of herbal tea wafting through the air, and the taste of cookies, all senses were engaged as we sat quietly and drew, enjoying the quiet community and creative energy of working in a group.
The only disappointment was that the experience didn't last longer! I made a pretty good start on my drawing in an hour, but I would have loved to make an evening of it. Unfortunately the Library schedule is pretty full, but I was grateful for the experience.
Fortunately, further sessions are planned! If you would like to come out to chill and create, the next session of Meditative Drawing is Monday, May 18, from 6-7pm. There's no cost - supplies and inspo are provided, so just bring yourself and be ready to relax and draw. See you there!
